Nederburg is one of the best and largest wine producers in South Africa. It is located beneath the Drakenstein mountains in Paarl. Nederburg was named in honor of the VOC commissioner Sebastian Cornelis Nederburgh. It is widely distributed around the world and is one of the leading wines in South Africa. The founder of Nederburg wine was Philippus Wolvaart who acquired the land in 1791. He began to cultivate vines in 1800 until it was later acquired by Johann Graue in 1937 who was a pioneer of the South Africa wine industry. He introduced cold fermentation and was an early advocate for biodynamics.
